Verses: Ezekiel 24,25 & 26| James 3| Nehemiah 1:3-4
Topic: ARE YOU A BUILDER?
Text: “And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.” -Nehemiah 1:3-4
The entire book of Nehemiah is concerned with the rebuilding of the wall of Jericho (which was neglected over time). Nehemiah wept, prayed and fasted for days, when he found out the wall of Jerusalem was destroyed. His mind was not beclouded by the luxuries he was enjoying in the King’s palace. He was a builder with a burden, who acknowledged his need for divine intervention and made a move to meet that need.
Nehemiah showed great courage in talking to the king about the rebuilding work. The king granted him the favour and he began to prepare for his building plan. The task was not what he could accomplish alone. So he inspired other people to join him on his mission. They faced a lot of opposition from powerful opponents but, succeeded because of the reasons we shall carefully take a look at tomorrow.
We will see that Nehemiah’s passion for the work of God is one that is emulatable. And like Nehemiah, every one must identify the walls of his divine assignment that must be rebuilt. As a Christian, you must be a builder not a destroyer.
My Father, My Father, as I begin to pray, help me to be a builder in your kingdom and not a destroyer…
