Nigeria received it’s official proclamation of independence from the British government on the 1st of October 1960. On this significant day, all public establishments are closed. More so, several parades are being held throughout the country. In America, over 75,000 people gather in New York to celebrate the independence of Nigeria.
The name “Nigeria” was taken from the Niger River that runs through the country. The name went viral in the 19th century when the british journalist Flora Shaw, wrote about it in one of her articles. Nigeria is also the 2nd largest crude oil producer in the world.
