Topic: THE PRODIGAL SON’S ELDER BROTHER.
Text: “But he was angry and would not go therefore his father came out and pleaded with him.” Luke 15:28
Everybody talks about the prodigal son, but nobody talks about the elder brother to the prodigal son. The elder brother to the prodigal son represents some Christians who will not ask from the Father, they put embargo on the demand to their father. But the Bible says in Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.” They do not operate the Father-son relationship; rather they limit themselves as slaves. In Luke 15:29, see what the elder brother of the prodigal son said when the Father celebrated the return of his younger brother, “but he answers his father, look, these years I have served you, and never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends“. He also had intention of wasting his resources with his friends but the point here was that he never asked like his younger brother ( prodigal son) who placed a demand saying ” Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me” and the father gave him (Luke 15:12). The younger brother knew his rights; he knew he had a share of the inheritance. He knew his sonship. The only problem he had was that he wasted his substance on riotous living.
Child of God, many Christians including you need to know their inheritance in Christ Jesus. Our inheritance in Christ is unlimited. Psalm 24:1 says, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world, and those who dwell therein“. Your Father owns and controls the whole world. He has given you charge of All; all you need to fulfil your destiny in Christ Jesus as an heir of salvation. Be bold to ask the Father (Hebrew 4:16) in His name. John 14:13-14.
Lord, help me to enjoy my full inheritance in Christ Jesus.
